Mr. Long is a Math Educator who has been teaching since 2005. During this time, he has been employed by Durham Public Schools, Robeson Community College, and Wilson County Schools where he has taught many levels and courses of mathematics, from Adult Basic Education Math to AP Calculus AB. His primary teaching responsibilities since joining WECA in October of 2013 have been Math 2 and Math 3, as well as the Foundations courses associated with them. Mr. Long has a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Masters of Arts in Teaching both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When he is not working, he loves spending time with his amazing wife and two wonderful daughters.
Michael Pardue

This is my 24th year in education and my 10th here at WECA. I have a BS in Economics with a minor in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. GO STATE!!! In addition to teaching math, I am the flag football coach here at WECA. We have never lost a game and I don’t intend on starting this year. Outside of school, my hobbies include playing the drums and collecting vintage beer cans. My wife & I live in Nashville and we have two sons. Both of our boys went to Harvard. Thank God they took after their mom. So, my motto is: “I don’t make many mistakes, but when I do they go to Harvard.” I am looking forward to teaching your child and having yet another great year at the Wilson Early College Academy. GO TIGERS!!!
Lori Mills

I am currently in my 27th year of teaching and have been part of the WECA family for the past 7 years. I earned my undergraduate degree from NC State University (Go Pack!) and my master’s degree from East Carolina University.
Teaching math is truly my passion—this girl loves math! I enjoy being in the classroom and helping students grow, always encouraging them with my favorite motto: “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
Outside of school, I’m married to my husband, Timmy, and we have four amazing kids—Taylor, Trevor, Trey, and Taytum Gray—and one sweet grandchild, Harrison. Most of my free time is spent cheering on my kids at their sporting events or watching Taytum dance. I also love the beach, spending time on the water, and embracing “island time.” Give me a good cup of coffee, a Coke from Chick-fil-A, or a fun shopping trip, and I’m happy!
English
Olympia Jenkins

Hello, My name is Olympia Jenkins. I am one of the English teachers at Wilson Early College Academy. This is the start of my 18th year of teaching. I taught for seven years at Elm City Middle School before becoming a part of the WECA family. I actually obtained my degree in English with a teaching licensure from Barton College which is what started my journey in Wilson County due to the people I met while getting my undergrad. I believe in student-teacher relationships as well as making sure all material taught is relatable. Learning can be rigorious while being fun and interactive. Besides loving to teach, I love spending time with my 16 year old daughter. Being her mom is my biggest accomplsihment to date. I share stories about her all the time in class. This helps build on the family aspect in my opinion because it shows the human in me, and I look forward every year to showing students and parents what it is like to be in Ms. Jenkins' room.
Kimberly Wright

Teaching is my passion. I love nurturing young minds and making learning meaningful. I have
been a proud member of the WECA faculty since 2011 and bring over 24 years of experience to
the classroom. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Barton College and my Master’s in Middle
Grades Education from Gardner-Webb University. As a National Board Certified teacher, I am
committed to excellence in education and helping students grow both academically and
personally. A resident of Wayne County, I’m blessed with a wonderful family—my husband, two
children, and three grandchildren. In my free time, I enjoy reading, relaxing, listening to music,
and spending quality time with loved ones.
Katrice Brown-Taylor

With 19 years of experience teaching grades 9–12, I’ve had the joy of guiding students through literature, language, and life lessons. Whether we’re diving into classic texts or current events, I strive to help students find both their voice and their footing. My students would likely describe me as fair, honest, and always “keeping it real”—and that’s exactly how I aim to show up each day.
One of the most meaningful parts of my job is forming genuine relationships with my students. I love hearing about their weekend adventures or seeing the world through their eyes during our literary discussions.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family—especially playing Roblox with my son Langston or learning about golf and 3D printing with my husband Travis. I also dabble in gardening (Hostas are my favorite!) and exploring the world of gourmand and fruity fragrances.
Keeping it real, one lesson plan (and fragrance layer) at a time.
Social Studies
Shannon Campbell

Mrs. Campbell is a high school history educator with over 15 years of teaching experience, the majority of which have been at Wilson Early College Academy. Most recently, she was named Wilson County Schools Teacher of the Year for the 2025-2026 school year. Mrs. Campbell currently teaches Advanced Placement U.S. History and American History Honors. Her goal is to make history meaningful and memorable for every learner. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing games, shopping, and staying busy as a wife and a proud mom to her daughter, Taylor, and her two beloved dogs, Paisley Rae and Parker Kate.
Kim Smith

Mrs. Smith has 30 years of experience in education in a variety of settings. She earned her BSE in History Education from Minot State University in North Dakota, her MAED in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Jones International in Colorado, and achieved National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult History/Social Studies. She has worked with Exceptional Children, helped establish the alternative school in Wilson County, and served as department chair of social studies at Farmville Central in Pitt County and Knightdale High School in Wake County. She came to WECA in 2012 and is passionate about the early college program! She is married to Eric Smith and has three children, Zachary, Reagan, and Morgan.
Jessica Dean

In 2007 I graduated from Barton College with a BS degree in Deaf Education and a concentration in Social Studies. In 2009, I married my college sweetheart, Tyler, a Chief Probation Officer in Rocky Mt. I started working for Wilson County in 2014 at Toisnot Middle School, where I taught 8th-grade US history. In 2019, I transferred to Hunt HS, where I taught World History, Civics, and AP World History. I was then offered an opportunity to come to WECA to teach in 2023, and I currently teach Civics and some World History. My husband and I have two daughters, Corinne, 12, and Eliza, 8. Both girls keep us very busy with scouts, soccer, taekwondo, dance, and cross country. We also have two English Bull Terriers (aka the Target dog), Olaf and Samantha. As a family, we attend Eastgade Church, enjoy traveling, and help rescue English Bull Terriers.
Science
Kara Haddock

Mrs. Haddock has been teaching high school science since 2015, most of that time at WECA, where she currently teaches Biology and AP Environmental Science. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from UNCW and completed graduate work at UL-Lafayette, studying amphibian ecology (yes, she’s definitely the type to get excited about frogs). Before teaching high school, she taught college level courses at NCSU and worked in a microbiology lab. When she’s not in the classroom, you can find her cooking, hiking, or at the hockey rink with her husband and 2 sons.
Nicholas Johnson

Mr. Johnson has been teaching science at WECA since 2011, covering everything from Chemistry and Physics to Biology and Environmental Science - usually with a cup of coffee in hand. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the College of Charleston, and his Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education at East Carolina University. When not at WECA, you can usually find Mr. Johnson in the kitchen cooking, in the sitting room reading or gaming, or out on some adventure with his family.
Katie Rouse

I’m a science teacher entering my 13th year in the classroom, 3rd year here at WECA and I still love every moment of it. I'm blessed with a wonderful husband and three amazing kids—Paisley, Eleanor, and Welker—who keep life full of laughter and adventure. I have a deep love for the Lord, and my faith is the foundation of everything I do. When I’m not teaching or spending time with my family, you can usually find me at the beach, soaking in the sun.

This is year 22 for me in education, and year 11 at Wilson Early College Academy—aka my second home! I’m your go-to girl for all things college, scholarships, and future plans. It’s truly my favorite thing to talk about, so don’t be surprised if I say, “Pull up a chair, grab a snack, we might be here a while.”
I’m a proud East Carolina University grad, Go Pirates!
Outside of school, I’m married to my best friend and travel companion, Kelly. Together, we have three amazing kids: Jase (28), Jada (21), and Dixon (15). I’m also a proud dog mom to Frank, our fluffy Australian Labradoodle who runs the house.

).
